WHY THIS WEB SITE

Access to Nationwide Resources for Local Action

This web site is designed to provide ready access to information about Maritime Domain Awareness/Operation Patriot Readiness (MDA/OPR), and should be considered a  portal to the various Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary offices having a stake in ensuring the success of the program.

Various Auxiliary groups are involved in creating and managing MDA/OPR segments relating to their traditional areas of responsibility and expertise, and the coordinated information available here allows and encourages elected and appointed District Officers, Flotilla officers, and members to implement local MDA/OPR activities in a manner consistent with proven practices.

Since MDA/OPR is a program spanning virtually all programmatic and geographical areas of the Auxiliary, as well as requiring the expertise of all staff departments, there is a need to have a medium for gathering and disseminating information efficiently and effectively. The way information is presented here falls into three distinct categories:

1. To take advantage of the expertise existing in current programs, the MDA/OPR web site provides links to National Auxiliary Departments having responsibility and expertise related to specific segments of MDA/OPR..

2. To encourage and promote innovation, the MDA/OPR web site provides links to District, Division and Flotilla web sites which highlight successful local MDA/OPR programs. Local Auxiliary officers are provided the benefit of being able to learn from the experience of others.

3. Acting as a clearinghouse and informal coordinator of information,  the MDA/OPR web site gathers, presents and discusses how the various, seemingly independent programs interact with one another to ensure the continued success of MDA/OPR.
